Council supported motorcycle safety
11 Jan, 2011 08:36 AM AS part of the recent Motorcycle Awareness Week, Lithgow City Council has supported the motorcycle awareness campaign run by the Motorcycle Council of NSW. Information on motorcycle and road safety was provided to the general public and motorcycle rider groups by Council’s Road Safety Officer Kym Snow and Events Co-ordinator Robbie Park at the Lithgow Visitor Information Centre and through Council’s administration centre.
With support from Lithgow Tourist In-formation Centre, local riders and members from Blue Mountains Bikers were also at the Hartley Big Backyard for Motorcycle Aware-ness Week which was the perfect event to spread the word about motorcycle safety.
“Lithgow and its surrounds are very popular with motorcycle riders,” Mayor Neville Castle said.
“There are some fantastic rides and it’s great to see motorcycle awareness being promoted not only to riders, but drivers of all vehicles.
“We want all visitors and local riders to enjoy our roads and return home safely.”
Endel Stevenson, President of Blue Mountains Bikers, said this was an excellent opportunity to interact with the public.
“Thanks to Lithgow City Council and the Hartley Valley Progress Association we are able to promote rider awareness and let everyone know we are a community focused organisation.”
“Blue Mountains Bikers welcomes all riders to take part in fundraising and volunteering for the local community.
“Our focus is not just motorcycle awareness, but also on supporting groups like Vale Street Centre for people with mental health issues in Katoomba and the Prostrate Cancer Council among others.”
Lithgow City Council thanks the Blue Mountains Bikers and local riders for their time, energy and resources promoting motorcycle awareness.
