Rio Grande City, Texas ─ U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station confiscated more than 4,300 pounds of marijuana in multiple, unrelated seizures Wednesday.
The largest seizure occurred when agents patrolling on bicycles near El Refugio, Texas, heard a boat on the Rio Grande. Shortly after hearing the boat, the agents saw several people emerge from the banks of the river and begin to load a Ford pickup with bundles of marijuana.
When the agents approached the group, the smugglers dropped their bundles and crossed the river into Mexico. The agents found more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana in the truck and on the ground.

Overall, agents from the Rio Grande City Station seized more than 2 tons of marijuana with a value of more than $3.4 million. The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
