SHAWNEE, Okla. — A Shawnee man who allegedly led authorities on a high-speed pursuit through Pottawatomie and Oklahoma counties in October 2009 pleaded guilty Wednesday and received deferred sentences on two felony counts. Christopher Jay Harrell, 23, was charged in Pottawatomie County District Court in Nov. 2009 with the felony count of eluding a peace officer in a manner that endangers another. He was accused of driving a 2001 Honda motorcycle on Kickapoo Street between West 36th and West 45th Streets when he eluded Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Deputy Joe McGirt, who tried to conduct a traffic stop. In a second felony count, Harrell was accused of running a roadblock at Pecan Grove Road and SH 102 as the pursuit continued. He also was charged with one misdemeanor count of failure to stop at a stop light at Kickapoo and Kickapoo Spur, and then seven counts of failure to stop at stop signs. The pursuit continued for more than 30 minutes and ended in Oklahoma County where Harrell allegedly surrendered to state troopers without incident. Court records show Harrell appeared in court Wednesday, where he withdrew his previous plea of not guilty and pleaded guilty. For the two felony counts, he received separate five-year deferred sentences and will be on Oklahoma Court Services probation. He was ordered to pay fines and costs. In each of the misdemeanor counts, he was ordered to pay various fines and costs.
