December 1st, 2010 8:37 am ET Motorcycle accident scene. Photo: Wyoming Times This is a hard article to write about for me. I have had several riding companions injured, maimed, or yes killed from ignorant automobile drivers. That seem to, not clearly understand how to drive near a motorcycle when one is right beside in plain view of the driver. I am often forcefully pushed to make a quick lane change or some sort of defensive move to save my hide on an every day basis. What can we do to change this problem? Education is one solution, when new drivers are at the drivers license office, maybe there should be some sort of question regarding motorcycles, little things such as: How to determine distance, before one crosses through an intersection in front of a motorcycle, the list goes on.
Most motorcycle related accidents are not accidents at all, they are careless and times, reckless behavior of drivers in general. These acts of carelessness are Murder in my opinion, and those who commit such acts should be tried in the court system and brought to justice. What can be done we ask? Well let start with less restriction on noise ordinance for motorcycles, Loud and Proud may save your loved ones lives. Charge careless drivers more than just safe movement fines, maybe take their license for 90 days to a year depending on the severity of the incident. We need a better system for motorcycle awareness, why do bikers have to be the ones wearing bright colored vests or buy loud air-horns? Because we want to get home in one piece and see our children and our grandchildren.

If you are reading this article and think badly of me or are saying shame on me for saying such things about Auto drivers then you are part of the problem and you need to remember that you can change these numbers:In two-vehicle motorcycle crashes involving a motorcycle and another type of vehicle, in 40% of the crashes the other vehicle was turning left when the motorcycle was going straight, passing, or overtaking the vehicle. This means that 40% of the time other drivers were at fault. Yes some bikers that are younger than 30 are known to be just as careless but for this article I am discussing about more aged drivers with years of riding under their belt not a year these guys are out to enjoy the stress free experience that motorcycling can give, but find themselves often as a matador fighting a bull. We are tired of wearing a Bully-Eye.
