Two patched Lone Legion gang members, including Legionnaires Ltd director Roger Turnbull, were remanded on bail without plea when they appeared in the Blenheim District Court yesterday charged with unlawful assembly.
Roger Owen Turnbull, 40, of Blenheim, was remanded on bail to reappear on December 20.
Among the bail conditions set by Judge Peter Butler are that Turnbull must not associate with the co-accused, and must not be on the property of the Stuart St warehouse he owns unless accompanied by tradesmen or local authority officials.
Michael Benedict McGlynn, 38, a contractor of Renwick, entered no plea to charges of unlawful assembly, behaving in a manner likely to cause violence, and being found without reasonable excuse in an enclosed yard. He was also remanded on bail and ordered not to contact the four others jointly charged with unlawful assembly, and not to enter the Stuart St address, which is thought to be the gang's new headquarters. He will reappear on December 20.
Another man, who is jointly charged and has interim name suppression, was also remanded on bail without plea and will reappear on December 20.
Charge sheets say the alleged unlawful assembly happened on November 28, which police prosecutor Sergeant Steve Frost said was the weekend the gang held a 30th anniversary party at the warehouse.
