RCMP investigating the 1999 disappearance of a former Hells Angels member have discovered human remains on a Nova Scotia property.
Nova Scotia RCMP confirmed on Sunday afternoon that forensic identification specialists are now trying to confirm the identity of the victim found east of Truro, N.S.
RCMP had been searching the site since last Wednesday.
Randy Mersereau, 48, disappeared shortly after his Truro, N.S., car dealership was bombed in 1999. He had left the Hells Angels and became involved in a drug war against the biker gang, police said in 2000.
After the bombing, his vehicle was found at the side of the highway to Halifax.
On Thursday, Nova Scotia RCMP arrested Gerald McCabe, 43, and charged him with accessory after the fact in Mersereau's murder.
"Members of the RCMP have been investigating Mersereau's disappearance since he was last seen on Oct. 31, 1999," Sgt. Brigdit Leger said in a statement.
"Based on the ongoing investigation, officers determined that Mersereau was murdered."
About a year after Mersereau's disappearance, his brother Kirk and a woman were killed in what police also believe was a targeted hit related to drugs and the Hells Angels.
"RCMP are currently searching a wooded area ... in Colchester County (N. S.) in relation to the investigation, " Leger said.
