TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - The University of Arizona Police Department will start using mounted digital cameras on marked department motorcycles and cars, according to a UAPD news release.
UAPD is the first law enforcement agency in Southern Arizona to utilize "CycleVision" motorcycle mounted digital video cameras, UAPD officials stated.
CycleVision will enable motorcycle patrols to record the same video and audio evidence that patrol cars capture. This enables the officer to visually and audibly record contacts with the public.
The CycleVision can also show that the officer's work complies with department policies and procedures and accepted best practices for law enforcement actions. The video evidence serves to document the accuracy of details surrounding an incident.
The purchase of video equipment for four motorcycles was possible through a grant awarded by the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety, the news release stated.
