LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – April is Child Abuse Awareness month, and Sunday a group of Lubbock bikers came together for a memory ride and candlelight vigil.

A few hundred people met at Mackenzie Park for the 4th Annual Blue Ribbon Rally where they enjoyed food and music. Each person wore a blue ribbon that said it "shouldn't hurt to be a child." Then, they made their way to First Church of the Nazarene for a candlelight vigil honoring all of the children in Texas who lost their lives to child abuse last year.

"As each child's name is read that died last year, we'll extinguish a little candle," said Ami Hill-Rendon, event coordinator. "It's really a very moving service, and it just is a memorial to those kids that lost their lives needlessly."

There were 288 children in the state of Texas that died as a result of child abuse or neglect in 2009. Lubbock area had the highest number or confirmed cases of child abuse, per capita, in the state.
