Motley Crue to play Buffalo Chip

OFF THE WIRE
Nobility will play Buffalo Chip Campground this summer, but Motley Crue requires neither curtsies nor bows.

"They are rock royalty," said Rod Woodruff, owner of the Chip.

The bad boys of rock ‘n' roll will join the Chip's 2010 Sturgis motorcycle rally lineup Aug. 11.

It will be the iconic band's first appearance in the Black Hills since a 2005 appearance at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center and its only summer stop in the United States.

The band is making a special trip to Sturgis for this appearance, as it is scheduled to play Stockholm, Sweden four days before the rally concert.

"We were looking for someone really, really special to feature during the rally," Woodruff said. "They decided they would like to be here."

And they will all be here: Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars and Vince Neil. In addition to visits to Rapid City in 2005 and 1999, the band performed at the Chip in 1994, though without lead singer Vince Neil.

Known for songs "Dr. Feelgood," "Girls, Girls, Girls" and "Kick Start My Heart," Motley Crue is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Motley Crue has sold 80 million records and, with an audience ranging in age from 25 to 70 years, Woodruff said the band will be a perfect fit for the rally crowd.

"They've sold records for three decades," Woodruff said.

Motley Crue joins Dave Mason, Tesla, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, The Guess Who, ZZ Top, Orianthi, Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Disturbed, Williams & Ree and Doobie Brothers for the 2010 lineup.
