The Brother’s Keepers Motorcycle Club will hold its eighth annual Burn Run this weekend at Lake Bistineau State Park II.

The proceeds from the Burn Run go to support Camp I’m Still Me — a camp for juvenile burn victims ages four to 17 and part of the Percy Johnson Burn Foundation.

“The kids get to go free of charge. That way they get to be kids and they do not have to worry about anyone staring at them or making fun of them. They just get to go out there and have a good time,” said Robby Roberts, vice president of Brother’s Keepers.

Brother’s Keepers is a made up of current and retired firemen and women or those direct relatives of firemen. Each year, the club rides down to the camp to donate the check.

“Without this money [the camp] could not afford to send the kids for free,” said Roberts. “Last year they chartered some busses and took them to the zoo in Dallas. A couple of years ago they leased Water Town after hours so the kids could go out there and swim and have a ball.”

Rain washed-out last year’s rally. However, the citizens of Bossier-Shreveport still came out and donated $14,000 for the camp.

“Hopefully, this weekend, we are going to have better whether,” said Roberts. “We have already had 75 people pre-register from out of state. We have people coming from Arkansas, people from Texas, we even have people coming from all the way up in Lexington, Ken. to come down and ride with us.”

The rally starts Friday with a pre-rally crawfish boil with live music that starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, participants will take part in a 55-mile poker run ride around Lake Bistineau. The poker run starts at 9 a.m., the last bike will leave at 4 p.m. Throughout the rally there will be live music, raffles and food for sale.

“Everything we make is profit and everything goes to these kids,” said Roberts.

Brother’s Keepers will ride down to Scottsville, Texas June 8 to donate the funds earned to the Camp.

“We always go down and eat supper with them let them play on the motorcycles and they seem like they thoroughly enjoy that. We invite all of the motorcyclists around the area to ride down there with us,” said Roberts
Those that cannot attend can still support Camp I’m Still Me by donating through Brother’s Keepers or the LSU Burn Center in Shreveport.
