NEW BEDFORD — A reputed Sidewinders motorcycle gang member has been convicted of pulling a knife on a man and threatening to kill him outside a city bar last year.

Edward D. Wilson, 53, is scheduled to be sentenced April 2 in New Bedford Superior Court. He was convicted of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon Thursday following a two-day trial.

Assistant District Attorney Steven Gagne prosecuted the case.

In April, New Bedford police arrested Wilson — whose reported nickname is "Mongo" — after he pulled a knife on a man outside Kirby's Bar on Kempton Street. The man tried to confront Wilson after Wilson had backed into the man's parked car.

Prosecutors said Wilson yelled at the man and got out of his vehicle, holding a knife in his hand, and said: "Do you know who you're (expletive) with? I'll kill you and bury you."

Prosecutors said Wilson threatened New Bedford police officers who later arrested him. Wilson told the officers he would remember all their faces and would later "get them."

Prosecutors said Wilson threatened to kill one officer who touched his "colors." Under Wilson's leather jacket, police noted that Wilson wore a Sidewinders leather vest with several patches on it.
