Presley takes aim at Outlaws again

OFF THE WIRE
Dennis Presley, Republican nominee for Williamson County Sheriff, issued a news release Friday reaffirming his opposition to a local chapter of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club.

Presley first spoke of his opposition to the Outlaws in a December news conference. In the latest news release, he compared the Outlaws to groups such as the Gangster Disciples and the Vice Lords. He said in his past experiences as sheriff, he confronted such gangs and plans to do so, if elected, with the Outlaws.

"I have been steadfast in my opposition to the Outlaws since the time of that press conference, regardless of the criticism of some individuals who choose to ignore reality and portray the Outlaws as a group of misunderstood people, wishing only to ride their motorcycles in peace," Presley said in the news release. "Nothing could be further from the reality."

Kent McClurken, a member of the charter group, the Storm Riders, said in a past interview that though they carry the name, they are not involved in any criminal activity and if any other chapter takes part in illegal activity it will not be repli-cated locally. McClurken could not be reached for comment Friday evening.

Presley said that Out-laws have had encounters with law enforcement in Williamson County in recent weeks but did not elaborate and could not be reached for elaboration.
