'Motorcycle Mamas' Ride For Charity

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --
Dozens of women raised money for muscular dystrophy Tuesday and made a bold statement for bikers everywhere in the process.

Despite rain earlier, and the threat of more, women came out to ride motorcycles to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy, and raise awareness that plenty of women are bikers too.

Harley-Davidson helped sponsor a charity run because they know the image of bikers is changing. These riders are wearing leather, but perhaps with a little lace.

"We get to go where we want to go, not where somebody else is directing us to go," Katina Stockbridge said. "It's an independence and a freedom thing."

Karen Davidson, of the Harley-Davidson family says women are no longer content to ride shotgun with their man. They want to be master of the machine.

"With their spirit, and their color and their zest for this. They're all feeling the same as men, I mean, freedom and adventure," Davidson said. "But they're also feeling super empowered."

With a police escort, the women wound their way from the speedway, through the city.

"It makes us feel like we're important," Janice Lane said.

The female motorcyclists raised more than $25,000 for MDA. This is the third year for the women's ride to raise money for MDA during Bike Week.
