Biker Church plans Easter rally

Off the Wire News
The Thunder in the Hills Biker Church will hold its eighth annual Christian biker rally April 3-4. The rally will be at the church on Texas 16, South of Kerrville. The annual Easter rally has been an institution since the church — where many of the members sport tattoos and leather jackets — was formed in 2003.

“It might not be the typical perception of a church-goer, but the message of Christ knows no bounds,” said Pastor Matt Fox.

Fox, who works as a mechanic and auto parts store clerk by day, has been the pastor of the church since it formed as an off-shoot of Calvary Temple Church. A life-long biker, Fox said he’s been riding since before he became a Christian.

The rally is meant to draw participants from throughout the Hill Country. The rally will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 3, with a service at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 4.

The rally consists of a bike and classic car show. There is a $10 entry fee for the show. The money collected from entry fees will be divided among the winners. There also will be a number of motorcycle contests, such as the slow race.

“(In the slow race) bikers have to go as slow as they can without putting their feet on the ground. The last one to cross the finish line wins,” Fox said.

Other events include a water balloon toss, where bikers ride under a pole, toss the balloon over and attempt to catch it on the other side without the balloon breaking.

Events like these are aimed at the “outlaw” biker world and are an outreach of the Texas-based Tribe of Judah, an organization of motorcycle ministries.

“Worshiping God doesn’t always mean a suit and a tie,” Fox said. “God is meant for all, even those who ride.”
