Officers charged after biker brawl

MCs in the News Two RCMP officers are facing charges of assault after an off-duty brawl with Hells Angels at Cheetah's Night Club this past summer.

Constables David Christopher MacDonald of Prince Edward Island and Kiel Samotej of Alberta will appear in Kelowna courts on April 22. Police said charges against the pair are related to their alleged assault on Aug. 7 of an unknown man wearing Hells Angels gang colours inside the night club. The assault involved a 'shoulder bump' and police believe the incident led to a larger conflict outside the club. The larger scuffle involved MacDonald and a group of close to seven friends, as well as 15 to 20 people wearing Hells Angels and Throttle Lockers gang colours.

The 40-year-old MacDonald was taken to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment of numerous injuries. He was released the next day after being held overnight for observation. Police said other members of MacDonald's group sustained minor injuries, but none that required treatment in hospital.

Both officers remain on duty, and are subject to an internal code of conduct investigation by the RCMP.

Crown counsel also approved charges of assault causing bodily harm against Kelowna resident Errol Milsom-Gardener in relation to his alleged attack on MacDonald. The 25-year-old Milsom-Gardener is set to appear in court in Kelowna on April 8.
