MSO Motorcycle Safety Org.

OFF THE WIRE
Hi fellow motorcyclists,

I was reading these comments:

The same can be said for us in Texas. We have an $8 charge on our MC License renewable each 6 years and make no apology to anyone for funding our Rider Training Program in that manner. We have established a Texas Motorcycle Safety Conference which works with other groups to establish grants for Highway Safety Issues in our state.
We are one of the most effective groups in our State Capitol because we work campaigns and put bikers in office. Every issue we address is posted long before we take it to the legislature and any one who disagrees with our efforts are welcome to point out the reasons to our membership or our legislators. TMRA 2 is definitely not a single issue organization though some have found it more to their liking as it requires less effort.
I as founder of Texas Motorcycle Rights Association will proudly put our legislative achievements up against those of BOLT in any state.

That is good if it is working in your State, however that is not the case everywhere. I live in Nevada, and we had a well intended ABATE guy push real hard for a state run motorcycle safety board, here are some of the finer points on what we get for our $6.00 it ( by the way, I understand the ABATE guy is doing time) :

1.For people needing their endorsement, but are experienced, we got a DMV test that is nearly impossible to pass on a practical street or touring bike. ( now if this tactic makes the roads safer, wouldn't we make people doing the car test use a "smart car" and drive like the Dukes of Hazzard?)

2. we now have paid for an authority in our state, that can spout bogus facts and numbers and be believed, by the legislature since they are a Govt. entity. In simple speak we are paying to be misrepresented.

The training need can be filled with the private sector, I see people taking handgun lessons without a law requiring them, what would the difference be.

3.now our state is trying to access the motorcycle funds and get them put ion the general fund. When that happens, it will just mean taxation without representation,

there are more, but you get the Idea. Dave

One thought for Sputnik, If you are working with the legislature, you are working on laws not rights. Rights are ours when we are born, and are supposed to be held more sacred.
