The February 2010 Local 6 report to the Bailing Wire

What a rewarding month it has been ! The Board Meeting in Camarillo was really well run….Controlled, full of good info, and productive. John, The Local 6 Safety Officer, was re-elected to be the State Safety Officer again (I tried to get away but somebody tripped me). At one point the local police showed up to fight crime, and were taking pictures of all of the license plates on our motorcycles. Our Local 6 photographer, Fran, went out and took pictures of all of the police. How about those Motorcycle Awareness signs on the highways ? Wow ! New we get ready for Motorcycle Awareness Month.

Our February membership meeting went well…plenty of good information. The number of people that were there were kind of low, but it being Super Bowl Sunday probably had something to do with that. The Athletic Supporters couldn’t drag themselves away from the tube. We took nominations for Local Officers, and Michael Decker volunteered to run for Treasurer. We need someone to take on the job of Membership Coordinator. The final vote is March 7th.

We discussed SB-435 and the fact that it is like a sleeping snake….We simply cannot ignore it or we may get bit in the ass. A letter from you to the Assembly Transportation Committee would not hurt. We talked about the new “Move Over Law” and AB-1664 which is the new bill that ABATE is co-sponsoring. If it passes, motorcycles pulling small trailers would not be restricted to 55 MPH on the freeway, which would then also allow them to move out of the right lanes or use the HOV lanes. Our PAC Committee, Chop, reminded the members that there will be 24 open Assembly seats without an incumbent, so we will be ready to beat the bushes.

The ABATE of California Bike Raffle is running a bit light, Don’t wait for September to buy your tickets…..Buy Now and Buy Often ! What a great birthday present to give to someone ! John read a good safety article titled “Adventures in Space”. Wanna be “green” ? Show up at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival on Saturday March 13th.
